The Ice Skating Club of NSW Co-Operative Ltd trading as Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink, is a not for profit entity which returns our income back into the operation of our ice rink. We are well known as the friendliest, best value rink in town.

Session Info

No outside food or drink is to be brought into the rink. 

You are required to leave as soon as possible at the end of the Public Session. 

Skate Hire tickets are valid for one session only. 

Skate Sharpening is available from the ISkate shop situated in the rink. Check for hours of business first.

Our rental skates are sharpened continuously every week. 

We may offer you a discount if you arrive within the last hour of the session, at the discretion of management at time of purchase. 

Group Discounts are available. Please see our Group Booking Information on this site. 

We do not offer pensioner discounts or concessions due to our policy. 

Public sessions are an opportunity to skate recreationally. The rink does not provide lessons in these sessions. See details under Learn to Skate for Skate School information and lessons. 

We do not provide skating aids of any kind. Our proven Learn to Skate techniques provide skaters an opportunity to skate without such aids. 

We do permit wheelchairs onto the ice during certain quiet or designated sessions, subject to prior approval by Management. Please email admin@canterburyolympicicerink.org.au

You do not need to book for Public Sessions, Skate School Lessons or School Holiday Lessons, however we do advise to arrive early to give yourself time to find parking and fit your skates ready for the start of the session or lesson. 

We do not accept American Express cards, only Mastercard, Visa card and EFTPOS.

A Family Pass constitutes 2 Adults (13 years and over) and 2 Children (5 – 12 years), or 1 Adult and 3 Children. 

We do not accept discount vouchers for any Disco sessions. 

You must advise the manager on duty if you are leaving the rink for a short time during a session. 

Yes, a bulk payment is required for any Group Booking. All skaters must also come into the rink in one group. 

Skate School

You are not required to book for lessons, however we do suggest to arrive at the rink well before the commencement of the start time so you can find parking and fit your skates ready to commence the lesson. 

You should arrive at least 30 minutes before your Learn to Skate lesson, and at least 20 minutes before any School Holiday Learn to Skate lesson. This is to allow time for parking, admission into the rink, any required registration and fitting of skates so you are ready to go for the start of your lesson. 

Your bulk entry Learn to Skate card is valid for no more than 6 months from the date of issue. 

No extension is allowed unless you have extenuating circumstances. Management must approve any extension. 

Learn to Skate cards are not transferable and must not be shared with another person or family member. Management must approve any sharing of a card.

The Guest pass allows another person free entry to one introductory lesson in any Learn to Skate program. Person must be a new skater and not be registered in any of our Learn to Skate programs.  

Family discounts apply to immediate family members only (e.g. mother, father, son or daughter). 

We suggest that you start in Skate School with group classes, then as ability increases and you progress to higher levels, Private Lessons can be arranged from there. Please email admin@canterburyolympicicerink.org.au for more information.

School Holiday Lessons

It is advisable to arrive at least 20 minutes before the start time to find parking, admission into the rink, and completion of any registration details and fitting of your skates. You should be ready to step onto the ice with your skates on at the posted start time for the lesson (usually 10.00am).

Yes. A quick registration is required on the day of your lesson. 

Parties & Groups

In addition to the Birthday cake, you may only bring in one small platter of outside food (e.g. sandwiches, fruit etc). 

We do not allow ice-cream cakes due to minimal freezer storage space. 

If you wish to dress the table with any additional items prior arrangements must be made withe the Party Coordinator for approval. Rink staff set up tables and chairs, inlcuding; tablecloth, balloons, paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery, candles, lighter and cake knife.

Yes we do, our options include:

  • Domino's Pizza - Simply Cheese or Vegorama
  • Subway - Salad only (includes: lettuce, tomato, cheese and cucumber on white bread, no sauce).

Yes, a tab may be established for items purchased by party guests. See Canteen staff on the day who will be happy to accommodate your guests orders. 

Kids Parties are recommended for children aged 6 - 12 years. Children 5 years and under are not permitted on the ice during the Party Lesson under any circumstances.

 

Our Teen Parties are recommended for people aged 13 years and over.

Children 5 years and under are not permitted on the ice during the Party Lesson. If a 5 year old wishes to skate they can participate in the Public Session when being accompanied by an adult. Discounted admission price will apply.

To ensure you get your desired party date, we advise to book approx 6-8 weeks prior.

Confirmation of the final number of guests attending and chosen food option must be confirmed via phone or email by the Wednesday prior to your party date with the Party Coordinator. In the case of your food option not being confirmed at the time of your booking we will default to the "Bronze Food Package".

No changes may be made to final numbers after a full payment has been confirmed for a party booking. Any additional party guests will be charged at the rate of $20.00 per person (Skating Lesson & Public Session ONLY. Food not included).

You will be required to pay in full for a confirmed number of guests by the Wednesday prior to your party date, which may be paid over the phone via EFTPOS or in person at the ice rink. . No changes to final numbers will be accepted after this time. Proceeding with final payment means you understand and agree to out Terms & Conditions. Unfortunately cancellation of a booking is an automatic forfeit of any payments made. Any additional guests on the party day will be charged at the rate of $20.00 per person (Skating Lessons & Public Session ONLY. Food not included).

We can have up to 5 parties in one sitting. Tables are set up based on numbers not exceeding 20 guests per party. 

Our maximum number of guests per party group is 20 people. If you would like to invite more than 20 guests, you must place another party booking for a minimum number of 10 guests (i.e. a minimum of 30 guests across two party groups). An additional deposit of $50.00 will be required for a second party host* at the time of booking (*additional host subject to availability - to be confirmed by the Party Coordinator).

Party guests are given safety guidelines and skating instructions during the 30 minute lesson. Having parents on the ice at this time can be distracting for the party guests. Parents are strongly encouraged to watch their child from the grandstands during the lesson and may then join their child on the ice during the Public Session. Disocunted admission price will apply.

A parent of the birthday child skates complimentary during the Party Lesson & Public Session. Other party guests & parents are strongly encouraged to watch from the grandstands during the duration of the lesson & to join the fun during the Public Session. Party guests wanting to skate in the Public Session will be granted FREE skate hire when purchasing Rink Admission. For example: Child $16.00 or Adult $19.00.

Each party will be designated their own colour to coordinate with wristbands and Party Host vests.

All shoes are placed in tubs provided and then located at the party table for durations of party.

Please wear enclosed shows, sock, warm comfortable clothing and gloves. The use of protective gear (e.g. inline helmet) is strongly encouraged and available for use on the day of your party, free of charge at Skate Hire.

Our party hosts are accredited coaches who provide skating instructions and safety guidelines during the 30-minute lesson. If it is appropriate, games such as limbo may be incorporated into the lesson based on the ability of guests to skate safely. We do not offer any prizes.

Conditions of Entry

The following Conditions of Entry apply to all Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink (COIR) customers for their comfort, safety and enjoyment. We ask that patrons report any accidents before leaving COIR. We ask that patrons report any accidents/incidents to the on duty Supervisor before leaving Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink.

 

REFUSAL OF ENTRY: 

  • Offensive or abusive language
  • Anti-social or disrespectful behavior – or anyone who has previously displayed ant-social or disrespectful behavior
  • Appears affected by drugs or alcohol
  • Any prohibited items that may cause injury or public nuisance

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS: 

  • All patrons skate at their own risk.
  • No refunds
  • Patrons must be appropriately clothed for a public place & must wear enclosed shoes into the venue & skates on the ice. Patrons with bare feet will not be permitted entry.
  • Food and drinks cannot be taken inside COIR (unless approved prior with management).
  • COIR is an unlicensed premise, & as such, the consumption of alcohol is not permitted.
  • Patrons wishing to bring personal items into the rink do so at their own risk, and should avail themselves of lockers whenever possible.
  • COIR will not be held responsible for any damage, loss or theft of a patrons personal property.
  • Published session times and prices may be subject to change without notice.
  • Adults are responsible for minors under their supervision. Minors aged 12 and under must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times (whilst on COIR premises).
  • Unauthorised soliciting and customer surveying is not permitted.
  • Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink is an unlicensed premise, and as such, the consumption of alcohol is not permitted.

 

RINK RULES: 

Inside our rink, there will be NO:

  • Smoking
  • Food or drink on the ice (including chewing gum)
  • Thongs or bare feet whilst inside ice rink
  • Sitting on or climbing over the barrier
  • Entering the ice surface without skates
  • Throwing ice
  • Any digging into or intentional damaging of the ice surface
  • Spraying snow or splashing water
  • Fast or dangerous skating (includes pushing or pulling another skater)
  • Throwing or kicking of any item whilst on the ice
  • Vandalism or graffiti
  • Carrying children on the ice
  • Standing on seats
  • Wearing headphones whilst on the ice
  • Animals may not be brought onto the premises (guide dogs excepted)
  • Stand well back from barrier when Ice Hockey is being played

Prohibited items:

  • Glass or cans
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Laser pointers
  • Dangerous weapons including knives
  • Roller skates, skateboards, scooters & bicycles
  • Commercial cameras and recording devices (unless approved prior with management)
  • Offensive or political type clothing or logos
  • Any other items as determined by COIR management that may cause injury or public nuisance

 

Rink staff and management will enforce these rules at all times. Patrons must abide by any instructions given to them by rink staff. Failure to comply may result in you being asked to leave the rink (without a refund), or being banned permanently.

Party Bookings

  • A non-refundable $50 deposit is required at time of booking. We cannot hold a spot without a deposit under any circumstances.
  • For payments we accept CASH or EFTPOS. We do not accept American Express.
  • For bookings lodged online an email will be sent from the Party Coordinator acknowledging your booking and requesting a deposit. A non-refundable $50 deposit will be required within one day of this email.
  • Confirmation of the final number of guests attending and chosen food option must be provided at time of booking and will be confirmed via phone or email by the Wednesday prior to your party date with the Party Coordinator. In the case of your food option not being confirmed at the time of your booking or by the Wednesday prior we will default to the ‘Bronze Food Package’.
  • You will be required to pay in full for a confirmed number of guests by the Wednesday prior to your party date, which may be paid over the phone via EFTPOS or in person at the ice rink. NO CHANGES TO FINAL NUMBERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME. Proceeding with final payment means you understand and agree to our Terms & Conditions. Unfortunately cancellation of a booking is an automatic forfeit of any payments made.
  • Any additional guests on the party day will be charged at the rate of $20.00 per person (Skating Lessons & Public Session ONLY. Food not included).
  • For party patrons doors to the rink do not open until:
    • Friday Night 7:45pm
    • Saturday 1:30pm
    • Saturday Night 8:00pm
    • Sunday 12:15pm
  • We do allow one small platter of outside food, subject to approval, however; generally we do not allow outside food or drink on the premises at other times. No ice cream cakes allowed due to minimal freezer storage space.
  • No external entertainment contractors will be permitted on site at any time (i.e. face painting).

Party Guests

  • Kids Parties are recommended for children aged 6 – 12 years.
  • Children 5 years and under are not permitted on the ice during the Party Lesson under any circumstances.
  • Teen Parties are recommended for skaters aged 13 years and over.
  • Party Host maximum ratio is 1:20
  • One parent of the birthday child can skate FREE of charge during the Kids Party Lesson & Public Session. Not applicable to teen parties.
  • For Public Skating, free Skate Hire is offered to parents, family & friends of invited guests when purchasing rink admission.
  • Our maximum number of guests per party group is 20. If you would like to invite more than 20 guests, you must book another party group for a minimum number of 10 guests (i.e. a minimum of 30 guests across two party groups). An additional deposit of $50 will be required for a second party host* at the time of booking (*additional host subject to availability – to be confirmed by the Party Coordinator).
  • There may be standing room only for parent/guests wishing to stay for the duration of the party; however parents may sit on the party chairs provided when party guests are on the ice.  Under no circumstances are party guests allowed to request or set up a table in the Canteen. This space is reserved for Public Session patrons only at this time.

Party Cancellations

  • Cancellation of a booking is an automatic forfeit of any payments made.
